The Barbican workshops and gallery by the harbour were an old granite warehouse. Also in the town are quite a few Georgian and Regency houses and an extraordinary Egyptian House built in the 1820s in the Egyptian style which is now the National Trust information centre. The Admiral Benbow Inn has low beams and a ship's figureheads. The Turk's Head, the oldest Penzance pub, had a tunnel through to the harbour for smugglers and The Georgian House almost four hundred years old was once the home of the Mayors of Penzance.

The Museum of Nautical Art has many things brought up or salvaged from wrecks and has a full sized, 4-decked section of an eighteenth century man o' war. Chapel Street is where most of these are to be found. From the harbour you can take day trips to the Scilly Isles or boat trips along the coast. Back from the sea front are the Morrab Gardens with sub-tropical plants and flowers where they have band concerts in summer; running along towards Newlyn are the Bolitho Gardens which also has bowling greens, and the Penlee Memorial Park has a children's play-ground as well as tennis. There are also squash courts, golf and sailing, and needless to say fishing boats for hire. One of the things that many come here to do is a spot of deep sea fishing for sharks which are lured by bags of bloody, smelly bait trailed behind the boats.
