Edinburgh has many galleries, museums and houses of interest, among them City Art Centre, Market Street, which has a centre of Scottish contemporary painting; Wax Museum at 146 High Street, contains effigies of characters from Scotland's past; Huntley House, Old Town is the main museum for local history and also carries Earl Haig memorabilia; Museum of Childhood, High Street is, for me, one of the best of its kind. And don't miss the National Gallery of Scotland, National Museum of Antiquities and National Portrait Gallery, Royal Scottish Academy in Princes Street which usually comes into its own during the Festival with an outstanding exhibition, Royal Scottish Museum, and the Royal Observatory.
