Nine miles to the north, by train, is Fleetwood, a port built for deep-sea trawlers and hoped-for tourists. It has a long promenade, good sands and swimming, two lighthouses, golf, tennis, yachting. Cleveleys is closer to Blackpool, with a sandy beach, and Marsh Mill, a brick-tower windmill, recently restored. Eight miles to the south is Lytham St Annes, on the branch line to Blackpool South, two separate towns now officially joined into one. Lytham has its own windmill, the Georgian Lytham Hall, Fairhaven Lake, used for sailing, and all sorts of water sports. The famous championship golf course is at Royal Lytham St Anne's. There is also the Lowther Gardens Aviary to visit as well as the Lowther Pavilion Theatre, Motive Power Museum and Creek Railway.

Lytham St Anne's - Golf at the Old Links Golf Club and Royal Lytham St Anne's Golf Club. Sailing at Fylde International Yacht Club and Fairhaven Lake. Swimming at St Anne's open-air heated pool and Lytham swimming baths.

Fleetwood - Bowling club at Memorial Park, Gala Grand Country Club. Swimming at the Swimming Centre, Marine Gardens. Tennis at Memorial Park.
