Touring from Norwich

Norwich thrope is a terminus station near the city centre and here end the frequent services from London Liverpool Street and Birmingham via Peterborough. But though a terminus it is not the end of the line, for from here trains branch out into the Norfolk and Suffolk countryside. The Wherry is the line to Ipswich and Lowestoft, passing through typical flat Norfolk countryside. Breckland line to Cambridge goes through Thetford Forest. The Broads line ends at Cromer and Sheringham on the coast. You can hop from village to country town and stop off. On the Broads line for example, stops can be made at Wroxham to see and sample the Norfolk Broads, at Worsted, where weavers and their looms can still be seen, and at North Walsham. From Sheringham the privately owned North Norfolk Steam Railway continues on certain days from Sheringham to Weybourne.

But you will need a car to enjoy the full richness of the Norfolk countryside. Blickling Hall, Aylsham, open April-October, except Mondays, is a stately home with textile conservation workshop; Manington Hall Gardens, between Aylsham and Holt, open June-August, except Mondays and Tuesdays; Norfolk Shire Horse Centre, West Runton, Cromer, open Easter and from Spring Bank Holiday until September; Norfolk Wildlife Park, Great Witchingham, Open All Year-D; Thursford Museum on the Fakenham to Holt road, open Easter to October with steam engines and wagons plus live concerts on the Thursford Mighty Wurlitzer; and of course, The Broads, Broadland Conservation Centre, Ranworth Road Nature Reserve, closed Monday, are all worth a detour.
