You can walk along the river for miles. Rupert Brooke's Grantchester can be reached easily and the walk takes in Byron's Pool as well. On the A1303, at Madingly, is the American Military Cemetery. Under the Stars and Stripes at the high masthead the serried ranks of crosses are ringed around in crescents on the trim green grass. Here are buried the thousands of American soldiers and airmen who operated from bases in Britain, many of whom served close to Cambridge. The long Memorial Wall names 5,215 servicemen who are in unknown graves. There is a chapel at one end. Within a few miles is the Imperial War Museum open March to November at Duxford which was a lighter station during World War II. Large collection of aircraft - frequent flying displays.

In Cambridge there is an enormously wide and varied programme of entertainment to choose from: music concerts, drama at the Arts Theatre, and at the University Amateur Dramatic Club Theatre, dancing and just about everything else as well.
